Auto-Selection Improvement for Short-Notice Jobs

This change adds Auto-Selection for some jobs created less than 24 hours before they start. It keeps the existing schedule for jobs created more than 24 hours before they start.

All times in this document use the outlet's local timezone. A job is short-notice when it is created less than 24 hours before its start time.

User stories

As OPS, I want the system to select applicants for eligible short-notice jobs, so fewer jobs expire without a selection.

As a Jodder, I want at least 6 hours between Auto-Selection and the job start time, so I have time to prepare for the job.

As a hiring manager, I want the existing Auto-Selection schedule to stay unchanged for jobs created more than 24 hours before they start, so the current preparation time stays the same for these jobs.

Scope

This change adds a second Auto-Selection schedule. It does not change the existing selection rules.

Rule	Behaviour
Existing schedule	The system uses this schedule for a job created more than 24 hours before its start time.
Short-notice schedule	The system uses this schedule for a job created less than 24 hours before its start time.
Minimum preparation time	The short-notice schedule only selects jobs that start at least 6 hours after the schedule runs.

The system keeps the normal Auto-Selection checks. For example, it only runs when the job is eligible and no one has been selected. This change only adds schedule times for short-notice jobs.

Schedules

The system runs Auto-Selection twice each day. Each run handles both the existing schedule and the short-notice schedule.

The 09:00 short-notice run gives selected Jodders at least 6 hours before a 15:00 start. The 17:00 short-notice run gives selected Jodders at least 6 hours before a 23:00 start.

Examples

Job starting at 18:00 today

1. A hiring manager creates the job today at 10:30.
2. The job starts less than 24 hours after creation.
3. The 09:00 run has already passed.
4. The 17:00 short-notice run does not include an 18:00 start.
5. The system does not Auto-Select this job through the short-notice schedule.

The short-notice schedule does not select every job created less than 24 hours before start. It only selects jobs that meet the 6-hour preparation rule.

Job starting at 20:00 today

1. A hiring manager creates the job today at 08:30.
2. The job starts less than 24 hours after creation.
3. The 09:00 short-notice run includes jobs starting from 15:00 through 22:59 today.
4. The system can Auto-Select the job at 09:00 if the normal Auto-Selection checks pass.
5. The selected Jodder has 11 hours before the job starts.

Job starting at 10:00 tomorrow

1. A hiring manager creates the job today at 16:30.
2. The job starts less than 24 hours after creation.
3. The 17:00 short-notice run includes jobs starting from 23:00 today through 14:59 tomorrow.
4. The system can Auto-Select the job at 17:00 if the normal Auto-Selection checks pass.
5. The selected Jodder has 17 hours before the job starts.

Why the system uses two schedules

Jobs created more than 24 hours before start follow the existing schedule. This keeps the existing schedule for jobs posted earlier.

Jodders who apply for a short-notice job already know the job starts soon. The system can therefore select some of these jobs later. It still keeps a minimum 6-hour preparation time.

Two schedules keep both rules clear:

Expected impact

The analysis estimates the revenue that may be recovered from jobs that would otherwise expire without selection.
